FIRST MOTHER'S DAY This photo was taken during my first Mother's Day on May 12, 1974. I was the young mother on the left side with my first baby (Rodney). He was born March 19,1974 and was only about 1 1/2 months old when this photo was taken. The other woman and children were our Argentine neighbors across the street. This photo was taken inside our first house in Hidden Lake (Canoga Park) California. I painted the oil painting on the background. It depicted many Phillipine folk dances. Later when we moved to our second house next door, I gave it away to my eldest sister because there was no big wall to hang it on. It is now on display in their house in Seattle Washington. THE ARTIST WITH HER PAST PAINTING
TITLE: "FOLK DANCES MEDLEY" ( 3 feet x 6 feet- oil on canvas)
PAINTED IN 1972
This oil paintingis is a medley of different Philippine folk dances. The Philippines is a treasureland of folk dances. From the top - tinikling (bamboo dance), fandango, singkil (royal dance), and senyorita. Did you noticed that the two above photos of this oil painting were cut-off? It was sad that I didn't have a full view photo. Fortunately, last August 2008, I reconnected to this beautiful oil painting of mine. Surpringsingly, the painting is still good. The colors look okay to me but I think my anatomy was the "rookie" type. When I created this painting, I was still doing many figure studies. Even today, I continue to develop my skill in anatomy. It's good to know that my anatomy skill had improved over time. But figure drawing is not easy and it takes lots of practice to be very good at it. Practice! Practice! And more practice!
ANOTHER VIEW This painting is hanged on the side wall of the stairs leading up to the living room of my sister's house. It was difficult to get a frontal view. Anyway, I did miss this painting. Someday, I will re-create this painting in a smaller dimension.
THIRTY-FITFTH MOTHER'S DAY Time flies so fast. It just seems yesterday when I had my first baby. It's hard to believe that this baby is now 35 years old. Well....baby.....I am growing old...............
