ART FROM MY HOMELAND-PART 2

"A sincere artist is not one who makes a faithful attempt to put on to canvas what is in front of him, but one who tries to create something which is, in itself, a living thing." William Dobell
During our trip to the Philippines last February 2010, one of the exciting adventures that we experienced was "island hopping". For about 12 days we covered 4 islands, namely Palawan, Cebu, Boracay -Aklan and Bohol. We flew via air planes, sailed on motor boats, super cat & rode tri-cycles, cars, vans to get to our many far away destinations. It was tiring because we packed & unpacked every 3 days. But was exciting as everyday was different.
Bohol was the last island that we explored. We stayed on a lovely boutique resort located at Panglao Island. Very serene & secluded kind of island. Not very many tourists like Boracay. The resort is named Amarela (a Portuguese word for the color yellow). No wonder when we arrived we saw a lovely amarella house. Amarella is not just a beautiful beach resort. It is also a showcaswe of Bohol's rich cultural and artistic heritage.

The main house got three floors. The first floor had a separate library with long table for reading & lots of big & thick Philippine Art books, which I couldn't afford to buy. Good they are free for reading while guests stayed there. I had lots of relaxing time to browse, to indulge reading & to enjoy those colored & nicely printed art books. The second & third d floor were turned into art galleries with beautiful local oil paintings & antique furnishings. This resort is made for artist & creative people. There were so many paintings on displayed but I am only posting my faves. Many of the local artists created inspiring living things or landscapes. I feel fortunate to have seen & enjoyed these artworks.
